Acts 18:3 (NIV)
Because he was a tentmaker as they were, he stayed and worked them.
Tentmaking or careers for Christians should be a temporary thing to earn our daily bread so that we don't become a burden to the Church. Not every believer is called into shepherding or full-time ministry. Like the Apostle Paul, some of us are called to minister the gospel as evangelists while supporting ourselves. The Apostle Paul is a role model for people like us who work full-time to earn a living while preaching the gospel on the websites that we have developed. However, we should always bear in mind that this "tentmaking" or our careers are only meant to support ourselves and should not become our lives. Many Christians are so obsessed with their careers that they have forgotten their purpose in life or calling, which is to be ambassadors of the Lord Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20).
Paul sets us all a standard in this regard. There were times when Paul supported himself through tentmaking. But when he received financial help from the Church (Acts 4:16, 4:18), he devoted himself to full-time ministry (Acts 18:5). Paul did not always work for a living, nor was he always idle (2 Corinthians 7-10). There were times when the Apostle worked for a living, but at other times, he was doing full-time ministry. But at all times, Paul was always an ambassador for Christ and never forgot or ignored his calling or heavenly vision.
